Clan Lord is still around. I've been playing since 2011 and its been good company. For me its 1/3 story telling, 1/3 basic coding (you tweak a lot of macro files to emote and perform actions faster) and 1/3 actually playing.
There are still daily hunts at various times of day and welcoming of new players. There is some limited experience acceleration to help new players catch up a little, but most new players will need help getting started.
There is a onetime fee to buy a character slot with the option to buy additional ones on the same account for a lot less. So no more monthly fees.
Most players I know would recommend starting as a fighter as its easier to explore and learn the ropes. I personally would recommend checking out the discord to find someone to show you around. Most players have communication items in game but as a new player you need to be in visual range or shouting distance to communicate.

download it today on 15.08.2017 and got over Demo online found a very nice player who show me everything. Tooblerlady we did much role-play talking about my drunk dwarf healer wo wants to find the mystic cat island and join many adventures till that day. well she tell me to register that i can choose a real character, it is for free now. So i couldnt create an account there was always login:pass pharse for the page. Then she tell me to write an email to the dev, i write a very long email that came back with the error "mailbox was full" ... well okay seems dead jim ! game would be a nice classic rpg, the people i found are friendly rpg playing but i could not create a account or character so 2 Stars without the nice people it would be 0 star !
